Stained concrete floor problem... help!

Question

Our stained concrete floor is chipping and flaking. Once beautiful, is now a mess! Don't want carpet. Suggestions???

I just finished repairing our 2 concrete patios. Same problem, chips and cracks. I found a product at Home Depot that is a miracle in a bag :) it's called Cement All. Come in little boxes or 55 lb bags. You mix in a small container, because it sets up fast. Patch the spot and it's ready to paint. In an hour. For small spots,  you could go to the craft store and try to find a bottle of craft paint that matches your color. Doesn't sould very professional, but cheap and quick. Would get you thru the holidays.

Years back i watched a program on DIY where they leveled the concrete with a patch, sounds similar to what Lee described, then they taped it in random sections and painted the open areas with different natural colors. Once dried and tape removed, it looked like a natural stone floor. After the final seal, it was absolutely gorgeous.

We used free floating vinyl from Lowes or Home Depot and it was a breeze to put down.  It requires no glue, doesn't slip and is so easy to mop with a Swiffer.

If you want something different, try porcelain tiles. They're made to be used on concrete. Lots of exciting colours and designs. The nice thing about porcelain is that the colour goes right through the tile so even if you get small chips they're not readily seen. Otherwise the suggestion about filling and painting the holes sounds good. Good luck.

I think William has some great links that will be helpful.   The stain does look heavy in some places so after it is patched then I would seal it with a recommended product.   Even Polyurethane will wear off quickly if it is not applied properly especially on the floor.   Best of luck. : )

That does not appear to be stain. True stain soaks into the concrete and does not flake off. This appears to be paint or an opaque wood stain not meant for concrete. Suggest cleaning it thoroughly, removing whatever is loose, then paint or find a flooring product like they use in garages to refinish the floor.

That looks like concrete paint, not stain, never heard of stain chipping either. I would rent a floor machine from home depot to buff that out and repaint. or use stripper to remove all the paint, and then stain the floor.
