How to remove this door handle?

I am changing all my door handles to levers as I have arthritis in my fingers and it is difficult to turn the knobs. There is one last stubborn door handle, different from the rest and I can't figure out how to get it out of the door. The handles pull off like usual by pushing in a little hole. But the base does not pop off like the other door handles. I have attached pictures and hope that someone can share their knowledge! Thank you in advance!
This is the door handle assembled. It is the same on both sides. It is likely 30 or 40 years old.
This is the handle with the knob removed on one side. There might be a screw at the base but there is only a small hole visible in the picture. Nothing on the other side.

The "round plate" that covers shaft that held the door knob probably snaps off. Use a flat screw driver or old butter knife to pry off the cover plate. You will find screws under the plate. Be careful not to scratch the door.

Thanks Dennis. That doesn't work on this handle but all the other ones came off that way. Have you ever seen one with a small screw in the plate?

Try using an Allen or Hex Wrench in the little hole. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hex_key The plate will then come off and you can remove the rest of the mechanism.

I believe that I remember seeing a door knob like that one when I was a kid. My father had the same problem until he realized that there was a very small set screw on the bottom of the plate. He loosened it, the plate slid off and gave access to the rest of the hardware underneath. Don't know if yours is like that... have a look.

Also, look for the set screw on the opposite knob on the other side of the door.

Yes. A small screw or sometimes an Allen wrench is needed. I have also seen them twist off. Good luck.

I think that little black dot we can see in the photo is called a grub screw. If you loosen that, the plate will probably pop off and leave only the mechanism for the lock behind.

That's a good idea as log as you don't have pets in the home to open them up.

There is probably a small slot where the base touches the door. It's not on the side where the photo was taken. You will need a flat head screwdriver to stick in there and just twist it.. the base will pop off, exposing the screws to remove the knob....

I agree with Tom. It most likely pops off with a small blade screwdriver. I have these on my doors.

There is always a small slot or a screw that you must first remove. Once you locate that you will surprise yourself with how easy it is, and give yourself a GOOD LAUGH when you release how ignorantly silly you were for not noticing that fact in the first place. HEy, it happens to just about everyone. Suggest when you install your new one you take photos of the steps to assemble and remove. It helps me to file that sort of thing away in another place other than my memory. You know when you have weightier matters on your mind other than installing a door knob the mind has problems processing simple matters. Enjoy your learning experience and don't sweat. If it gets too complicated just replace the whole door - ha,ha,ha,ha. Blessings in The Name Jesus - on The One Door that opens to every humble heart who knocks.

If there are no screws visible, then get a slim screwdriver under cap next to the door. Appears to have been sealed by paint to the door

Thanks all for your helpful replies. There is s small screw in the plate but difficult to remove

If it doesn't require a screwdriver, that small 'screw' might need an Allen wrench to loosen it.

    Try unscrewing it .

There is almost always one side of the door that will have two screws on the knob plate. Unscrew them and the whole thing should just come off.

An alternative I have seen here in Maryland: apparently there is an auxillary lever that attaches over the knob.

Yep, I agree with Brian . Try unscrewing either section. Or look inside to check for a screw or put a screw driver in there and maybe pop the other side out?

Looks like you're down to the point where you pry the base plate off. There are two screws under that you need to remove. Then unscrew the strike plate and pull that out. Pull knob from other side.
