I have some of those village pieces. I use the mini lights on the ones that are missing the lights, but you can buy the replacement lights with cord at Michael's. Where they have their lemax village there are replacements for everything. They really only carry this stuff during the fall so get it now. I believe "At Home" ( the old Garden Ridge) also has them.
Try fairy lights as they are smaller.
I agree with Sh7777. My daughter has an extensive Christmas village collection. Last count was about 300+. The ones that don't have lights, she just uses regular white string lights and just inserts them through the holes. Any remaining lights on the string she spreads out and covers them with fake snow matting. I call her home Niki's Christmas Shoppe, because that's what it looks like =:)
