Braid them in threes to create small ropes for drape tie backs.
Use them as strap/handles for cloth bags -- made from scrap fabric such as old pant legs.
Make a flower pot hanger.
Make a rag rug.
Decorate the top of a plain bland looking curtain.
Sew together to create a curtain.

if they are silk ....use them to put patterns on chicken eggs to display for easter Here's a link that might help http://mommyknows.com/silk-tie-dye-easter-eggs-tutorial/
A tie wreath!
Bring them all to your next wedding you go to ... hand them out to everybody...ask them to make a ring out of it and put them on their fingers to symbolize the bride and groom's love for each other.
Later you can announce a "trading time" where guests can trade one for another - so everyone gets their favorite color.
Later you can have dances dedicated to either matching or non-matching colors for alot of fun !
You could elect or designate a winner !
I made a quilt using Dresden plate pattern. Use spray starch on ties before cuffing them out. Easier to handle. Came out gorgeous. Ties are made of silk so you can not wash the quilt. Dry clean only
Make a purse, throw pillow, quilt, the list goes on and on and on. Haha
I made a beautiful mermaid type skirt out of my grandfather's old ties-they were nice and fat but it works for any width and you can use different widths in the same skirt.
Undo seems on ties. Then following those old seams, see them together side to side. The skinny part at too, wider at bottom. I measured the inches I wanted the skirt to be at my width and then figured out how many ties side to side would fit that width. After seeing ties together to right waist width, I put a zipper in back but you could use buttons or even make a wrap around with enough ties. The gems are zigzag and look great at the bottom of the skirt. I left the top zigzag for the heat look if I tucked in a short. You could even show off your belly. Or you could fold over the tips to make a flat edge on top. Wala! Some thing cute, vintage, one of a kind and if you use ties from people you know, they will remind you of that person when you wear it. Have fun. :)
