I have the same thing in my laundry room. I have covered with a picture that actually opened and held keys. And I've used a large calendar to hang over the whole thing. Now I have a old washing board to go with my decor in there. So many things you can use.
Sometimes it's hard to find the right size picture (etc) to cover up the space. So just keep those measurements with you at all times. Whenever your out and about shopping, keep an eye out for something that will work for that area. I have antiques in my laundry room. So think about your theme. Please post picture of your end results. :)
