DIY "Forever" Dryer "Sheets"
Place 6 sponges cut in half lengthwise in lidded container w/ water & fabric softener in a 1:2 ratio.
To use, squeeze out excess liquid from 1 half sponge; toss in dryer then add wet laundry. Return sponge to container for reuse.
No, they don't. I wondered about that too but after using it for two years it still does not cause a smell.
I haven't tried it w/ hair conditioner. I use unscented fabric softener & then add essential oil to the mix, such as lavender or citrus oils. Yes, non-synthetic sponges from the store, bought mine at Target for cheap.
Loosely ball a sheet of aluminum foil and throw it in the dryer.
We have had great success with pouring white vinegar into the rinse cycle. Many people use 100% wool. They make balls about 3-4" in diameter, put them in the washer with hot water, then dry in your dryer. Leave them in the dryer for future loads.
Commercial fabric softeners coat clothes in chemicals. Yuck. I use 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water and 20 drops or more of your favorite essential oil. I use lemongrass. Mix together in a glass jar, soak cut up t shirt pieces and add one to your dryer.
same amount of white vinegar instead of fabric softener..............
Judy, here is how I make my citrus infused vinegar. (not only is it great in the wash, but also a multi purpose cleaner). Fill a quart jar with your choice of raw citrus peels, cover them with white vinegar. Seal jar, shake & store for 2 weeks. Strain out the peels and "ta-da" you have infused vinegar & no need for Essential Oils. (your drawing oils from the peels by soaking in the vinegar). Your choice of citrus will determine the scent. Sometimes I even mix mine. Hope this helps. Good luck!
Skip the dryer sheets or fabric softener. Try using dryer balls. Either the felted wool or the silicone ones work well. Don't buy cheap ones, they don't last. Norwex makes very good ones. Only change you will have to make is to reduce the drying time. If the clothing has static, you have over dried them. The dryer balls leave no chemicals on your skin, a real bonus.
Norwex does home parties, similar to Tupperware type of thing. Google to find your nearest agent. Their idea is to reduce chemical use. You need to see their demonstration to really know how to use their products. I love their products! They have wool and silicone dryer balls. You can also buy wool ones at many farmer's markets.
get the felt dryer balls (available at World Market) dab one of them with a few drops of essential oil of your choice. Toss in the dryer with your wet clothes and they come out wonderfully softened and smelling nice. The dryer balls also reduce the amount of time neccessary to dry your clothes
