I really don't know that this is possible. in order for the paint to stick to the cabinets you have to use a deglazer or rough the finish up with high grit sand paper.
I don't see how this would be possible either, Sandra. Can you try your whitewash on the inside of one of your cabinet doors?
I would use Chalk Paint, its very easy to apply and extremely forgiving, You CAN'T make a mistake with chalk paint ! You don't to use a primer, you just wipe down your cabinets with Mineral Spirits, let them dry, then start painting, a little goes a long long way. Check out You Tube for tutorials and you will be pleasantly surprised. I was !
Paint a scrap board and hang it up in your kitchen for a few days. I even do this on a piece of foam core from the Dollar Tree, then you can tape it to your cabinent.
