Our 70's house has the original windows. Some areas are cloudy.

unfortunately I think you'll need to replace them. A friend of mine had this problem and couldn't get them to clear up at all. New windows are much more efficient also which may bring down heating and cooling costs
Believe me I totally understand. Home renovation and improvement costs a lot of money that most of us don't have
Sadly, you will have to replace them. Check locally and see if there are any outlets, etc. We have a Simonton Window outlet about 100 miles from where I live and we bought our windows and doors from them. A fraction of the cost of new and all first quality.
We just did this. Only solution is glass replacement. Not whole windows. Just the glass. Good luck.
It is moisture between the two pieces of glass due to the seal breaking. There are companies that specialize in taking glass apart and resealing. This is a good option for houses when matching windows is important and new ones won't work. They even replace glass in antique houses saving the old frames.
