Thanks Shoshana, but the opening is only 11 3/4" just enough for one side of a folding door, I had not planned to include a frame. If I use a pivot mechinasm the opening is now reduced by about 2.5 inches and would be difficult to use. I wanted to do something easy and to just screw the hinges to the existing opening.
Is there someone else at the church with more experience that can provide help or guidance? You definitely need the right tools for the job, so check with your local hardware company to see if you can rent the tools for a day. An alternative to cutting into the drywall to create a linen closet would be to find a 2nd hand bookcase, paint it, and then attach it to the wall and trim it out with moulding so it looks like its custom built for the space. Good luck Bruce!
