You could try cleaning it with Wood Soap then rubbing linseed oil to recondition it.
Restain it or paint and give it a good coat of marine epoxy top coat, I like satin finish. The stuff is very strong and last years, and I live on the ocean and the front door takes a beating. Clean with Dawn rinse then stain, paint or use an oil to condition the wood.
