How do you get the perfect mitre jion on skirting boards?

I have walls that are out of square and I just can't seem to get the corners of my skirting boards to meet at a 90 degree angle without a great gap?

Thats a tough one. Can you use a scrap piece to try to perfect the cuts? If you can't get it closer you may have to caulk.
