Don't do it. The weeds poke through the plastic, and then when you try to remove them, it's a nightmare.
No. Otherwise there won't be any depth for roots. After filling the the bed with soil put landscape fabric on top of the soil. Cut an X where you want to set a plant. Allows drainage and prevents weeds.
I might try putting landscape fabric (the kind that allows drainage) at the bottom of the planter, then filling it up with soil.
Never plastic!! I am still finding that stuff (13years later) from the previous owner, all around the edges of my lawn-where the old shrubs are.
Use heavy landscape fabric with newspapers and cardboard then put the soil in
Thanks!
Thanks for the imput
i generally use the plastic on top of the soil, cutting an x to plant thru. it helps keep the weeds down, and warms the soil a bit. plastic on the bottom will make a swimming pool of mud.
Make sure you look at the rolls of landscape fabric and get one that lasts as long as you can find, then you won't have to worry about replacing it for a long time.
