I think it really depends on the style you go with in the room. If you are going with something funky or retro, they'll be great...if not, not so much! If you decide to keep them, I would definitely paint the metal part to give it a more modern look and style...maybe something really bright and fun
I would turn them into beautiful garden lights.
If you want a more modern look I would take them down and get a new fixture with 3 or 4 lights in a row on a bar. You can get a new fixture with globes included for about $75 and the stucco I would scrape off the walls then sand them down and paint the wall in a more new modern color of your choice. A brushed satin nickel would look nice for the light fixture and your choice of paint for walls
Wow these bring back memories. My Momhad these in her bathroom for years! If possible take them down and get a bar light with maybe 3 or 4 lights depending on the size. If that isn't an option and you have to make due with what you have, maybe change out the globes to something different. How about maybe mason jars, they are very popular or go to Home Depot and see what they have or even resale shops. Maybe even get rid of the chain and cover the cord with something else. Maybe conduit, ribbon, material or even rope. Whatever would fit your decor.
Patricia, the above suggestion from Handan & Greg, got me to thinking as they suggested garden lights. A great idea! Think on this...the light in a wood built box, place the light on top (cut a hole for it to sit in), the chain is in the box and out of sight or remove the chain completely and use for hanging birdhouses, plants or whatever. The electric cord comes out the back side and plug in. I would suggest to paint the ivy on the light, a green to add color. This would look nice on your patio .Add a bulb of your choice, soft white or bright light, depending on your area and mood. The wood box could be painted or left natural your choice.
I love this idea and wish you were nearby to assist. Thank you for sharing your obvious talent for creative solutions.
