Soak in vinegar overnight and scrub with steel wool. To prevent rust coat with oil.
Hi :) The best wasy to remove rust from old tools is to put tools in bucket and buy a load of Coca-Cola so they can be covered completely. Leave them there at least overnight. If you still see rust in the morning you can use steel wool to get the rest off or put them back into the cola and leave for another day or 2 or 3. I don't know if any other type of pop would work; I just know that coca-cola does (that's what my Dad used). OR you can try following the instructions in the following link:

What about turpentine
molasses bath works too. a bit expensive unless you know someone who makes it.
Try a quick soak in Coca Cola and scrub off remaining rust with steel wool.
I sell a lot of old tools on Ebay. I also tried all kinds of techniques to remove rust. What worked for me was electrolysis.
