if you hang your curtains from the ceiling rather than the window frame and have a valance from the ceiling to the top of the window frame (or roman blinds folded up so that the bottom touches the window frame) should give the illusion of a larger window.
You could try adding mirror tiles which can be bought at any hardware store. They are usually 12"x 12" squares. If you need smaller ones you could have them cut to the size needed. The mirror tiles come in many designs or plain.
Hello Ccchancock; I would add mirrors, as they will draw the eye up. Furthermore, you could always add inexpensive track style lighting above the window. This will draw you eye up.
