"Best" is very subjective. Depending on how green your thumb is, snakeplant, African violet, Orchid, Christmas Cactus, Potted Palm are all good choices. There are many others, depending on what you like.

It depends on so many things - how much light you have, how much room, etc. The best thing to do is decide where it will go and then look at plant books or websites to see what works best for you.

I cannot for the life of me maintain African violets or these orchids we see everywhere. I explicitly follow instructions but nada. They die. Way back some decades ago there were some popular plants--creeping Charlie, piggyback plant, wandering new ..of which there were two color varieties... these worked great for me. But I never see them in modern current households. Maybe passé . I'm wondering about what good houseplants for myself. well, good luck

Hello Kim; I by no means have a true green thumb. I try really hard, as I enjoy having plants and flowers.
It is exceedingly difficult to manage to kill an Aloe plant. The babies make a nice gift for someone that does not have one, also.
Succulent's are Wonderful, as they thrive pretty much anywhere. You can find all types of Succulents at Wal-Mart. They are inexpensive, also!!
Why don't you call your local nursery and ask them what do they recommend??
I hope that this helps you!!! Take Care!

Plastic plants...there are some out there that look very realistic. Then all you need to do is wash them occasionally as they do collect dust.

I love the Pothos Vine. Water once a week, give it indirect sun and it will grow big with trailing vines! A beautiful, impressive plant that comes in green leaf form or variegated green and white leaves! Here are pics of each:
