Could it be rust stains, created from damp carpet (from shampooing the carpet) interacting with the nails or screws in the feet of the furniture? Just a thought...

You might try plain old Windex. I had this same problem, I did have to do this multiple times- but it did take the stain out. Just spray the windex on the area and blot dry with a clean cloth.
Unfortunately Windex didn't touch the stain. I have also tried ammonia, rug cleaner and hydrogen peroxide - no luck yet. The stains are a little lighter but still visible.
