Any tightly woven fabric will work well. You could also line them, which would be even better.
Window film will reflect the UV light and heat of the sunshine and still allow you a view to the outside. It's commonly available at hardware stores like Lowe's or Home Depot.
Most home centers sell a stick on product used for blocking the sun. Some of them even come in patterns like etched glass, stained glass, etc. Check in your area to see what your options are.
