I had what I called "ugly" yellow tone oak cabinets. Even though it was real oak, I didn't like it at all. So, I painted entire kitchen cabinets with my homemade Chalk Paint. It was 5 years ago and still like new.
I do not know what your kitchen cabinets are made of but I would think that as long as they are NOT made of press n seal or saran wrap it should work out fine with a few simple steps and some good paint made for kitchens (and with the advancement of technology, I wouldn't doubt that someone has come up with a way for paint to be applied to Saran Wrap too). The first thing to do, of course, is decide how do you want to paint it (just a stain with a protective overglaze or a straight plain paint color, or do you want to put desings on it like tile, flowers, murals, or faux stone, etc). This will determine the color(s) you will need, as well as any stencils if you opt for designs, and whether or not you will use primer (mo primer with a stain). THEN buy it all, THEN do the sanding and wipe down ;) DO NOT MAKE THE FOLLOWING MISTAKES:

So good luck to you and thank you for using Hometalk for answers :)
There are a TON of tutorials on hometalk and pinterest for painting kitchen cabinets! Some prefer chalk paint and some like latex.. it's all in the preference/look you want to achieve.
Rustoleum has a kit for that.
theres a kit at Home Depot and you can reatain with Gel stain very easily too!
I have been using a Fusion Paint n my dining room chairs and table. Real easy to use and foes a marvellous job. I would do my kitchen cupboads with Fusion.
I redid my kitchen last year using Home Depot's Cabinet Paint. I went to their website, searched for kitchen cabinet paint & found it. It is more expensive than regular paint but worth every penny. My kitchen is so much cleaner- & cooler- looking & definitely brighter. Also, be sure & use the right paint brush - it makes a huge difference when using the right one for the job. (I probably could have gone through Loews for the same paint but Home Depot is closer & I know most of the staff.) Even your local Ace Hardware may be able to get it for you. Good luck!
