It may sound crazy, but I heard ketchup! I've never actually tried it though so you may want to do some research.
If this is valuable call an antique shop, and ask. I would advise you get some professional opinions and not try this on your own. Good Luck!

Yes ketchup will do the trick, but is slow. Vinegar cut 25 to 50%with water will do the job in a few hours.
If the piece is of some value, call an antique dealer and ask. I am pretty sure you have this on display, and you don't want to run it. I would not try this on your own. Get some professional opinions about this sculpture. Good Luck!
Try some oil.....any kind will do. apply it liberally with a cloth, let it sit and then wipe it off. Using a dry cloth buff the oil into the entire sculpture.
steel wool pad and cooking oil should do the trick
