I really would suggest you buy or borrow a book on the subject if you wish to take up this craft, then you would have it to hand.
Check out hobby shops like hobby lobby, they always have books on macramé. Look through them for a style you want, start with something small and easy before getting into something complicated so that you don't get discouraged from the start. Do something that has the same type knots the hanger you want is made from so you get some practice before you start. You need to be able to use the same tension on each knot so that it comes out even. Practice makes it much easier. Most hobby stores will have the materials you need. Hubby used to macramé and we even used sturdy yarn so that you could coordinate with furnishings and décor of the house.
Go to Craigslist and under "wanted" say what you want, like Macrame rope. Maybe someone has some stashed away!

Hello Jan; Please check on EBay. Also try Amazon.com.
At one time, Wal-Mart carries a large supply of Macramé items. They still might carry some. I would check online at Walmart.com
I hope that this helps you!! Have fun crafting and Take Care!
Try a marine supply store: hemp rope, cords, cables, cotton rope, etc. Also, Home Depot has cords, clothesline, and cotton ropes at much lower prices than craft stores.
