I would pick a color you like, look at lots of pictures for inspiration... https://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?rs=ac&len=2&q=front%20door%20colors&eq=front%20door&etslf=8101&term_meta[]=front%7Cautocomplete%7Cundefined&term_meta[]=door%7Cautocomplete%7Cundefined&term_meta[]=colors%7Cautocomplete%7Cundefined
When you select a color, I would paint the door and the trim around the side lights the same. Then I would select a darker color to paint that white builder's grade trim around the door to make it disappear like a dark grey or deep color choice from your siding.
Hello Lindsay, I personally think you need to lighten up that door so it matches more closing to that color of the posts where the sun is shining on them ... OR give it a bright POP of color even if it were a light (almost whitish) gray color. or red. or even a yellowish or light blue or light burnt orange ... but I agree with you that something other than dark gray neds to be there. I also believe that your home should say YOU live there and the color of your door should reflect who YOU are inside yourself. What is YOUR favorite color? Don't worry about what others say or think. In the long run it is YOU who needs to be happy approaching the door to YOUR home, and I am pretty sure your favorite color is NOT dark gray ;) Here is a website to give you some ideas, but I hope you settle on something reflecting YOUR personality :) Lindsay, good luck, and thanks for using HOMETALK for solutions :)

You definitely need a pop of color, pick in a family of color that you like. I personally love a bright teal.
The color of either one of those pots on your porch would nice on your door. Of course, I don't have a specific color but your local home improvement store could match the color or Shewin Williams. Good luck.
I think your door needs to be brighter and more eye-catching, since it's recessed under your covered porch and in shadow. I'm not able to see your entire house in the picture, but the stained timber porch posts, natural brick, and earth-tone stair rail give your house a rustic, woodsy-western feel. I think an olive green would look great on your house, like Amazon Jungle by Behr, or Great Barrington Green by Benjamin Moore. Alternatively, you could do a light blue-gray like Sherwin Williams' Oyster Bay.
Well not having a picture of the front of your home to figure out the color from what type of home you may have like brick, siding or wood this would help determine that pop of curb appeal that your looking for. The basic colors are red, black and what ever color your shutter areπ
Ok the picture loaded, I would use a terra cotta color because the of the dark brick and roof this will add that coral appeal your looking to achieve and here's the color and code and name. I used a lighter one on my doors. Use a foam roller to get the best coverage and it will look bubbley don't worry it drie perfect but being your door is dark you may need 2 coats.
I agree that terracotta would match your bricks. Matching is nice and safe. Rather, why not try a complementing color like blues and greens.
I just want to say I love that front door! I think a light or bright color that complements the brick and really pops. I would keep the colors of the stained glass in mind, too. The door color shouldn't clash with them.
πππ thank you for the vote of confidence I am actually going to Home Depot to pick up a few more samples I'm So indecisive that it makes it hard to make a decision was also going to attempt to grab a glossy black but those Blues above in the picture are the ones I've really really liked especially the Navy Blues on the bottom
