When we bought our house we painted the window and door trim and sliding closet doors in our bedroom with white oil based paint. I want to redo our bedroom and that includes having stained trim and doors.

hello Jclaplante, Please just bear in mind that any oil based paint made before 1970 has lead in it, so if the paint you want to remove is that old, PLEASE take precautions; in fact, you might want to call in a professional to remove it.

Pint was purchased and applied to stained trim in 2002 so lead should not be probl. Thank you.

i would use a paint stripping agent- let it bubble up then scrape. because it's a wet prep there should not be any dust to breath in if there was lead paint present..

That will be a big job. Sand off old oil based paint. Try it in an inconspicuous area to see if the stain will adhere after you sand off the paint. Don't go to all that trouble before testing to see if you have good results in your test area.
