Hi Dorlis, I'm happy you're surgery went well. If you love gardening, and have help, you could start an indoor terrarium. I wouldn't require any reaching above your shoulders, Have someone set up a table for you with all the things you will need and take your time to create a lovely indoor garden! Here's a how to link for making a terrarium, if your interested. http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/how-to-make-a-terrarium-139860

Hope you have a speedy recovery!!

Why not do your gardening this year in pots? Not so that you'd have to stoop or do heavy lifting, but to have pots on a table outside, so that you could stand or sit and do what you love? Major surgery is enough of a life disruption - gardening for those who know it, is an excellent mood booster and gives one something to look forward to each day! Maybe concentrate on a set of kitchen herbs in small pots, or seasonal flowers from seed on your table top?I use an old card table for my pots and it's SO very nice to be able to tend to them at table height that I'll never go back to in-ground planting. There's no reason you couldn't do a 'light' version of gardening, or maybe even start seeds indoors this Winter, on a small scale? Hope you're feeling better each day, it's important to know when to rest or ask for help! Perhaps a young person from your area could help place pots, soil, etc., so that you don't have to.

Before surgery I moved all my houseplants to the deck. I had to bring them in with the help of a friend's son (to carry the heavy ones like ginger and lemongrass) becaue it has been so dry that squirrels were eating them to the ground. Only have 3 more to come in (super spiny Peruvian column cactus and a large sanseveria . It was so dry that they even tried to eat my dendrobium and crown of thorns. I hope this dry spell ends soon but then everyone seems to be having this problem so I am not alone.

Dorlis , Hope you get better real soon. Try getting some succulents. They are small and something you can sit down and re-pot at your kitchen table, and enjoy every day. Wishing you well!

They start out small, but mine are all in 10 to 16" pots now.

It sounds like you are recovering well. Congratulations!! Are you looking for something to pass the time? Do you sew, quilt, knit, crochet, quill, do beading, macrame, draw or paint ? I have learned so many things by watching YouTube tutorials. Some tutorials are more help than others, but you can always find very good ones.

Take good care of yourself and next year you can be out there gardening again! Let us know how you get along!

Hello! First, we wish you a speedy recovery. Second, if gardening is your thing, there are many books out there that you can read about improving your garden before spring. Some I've run across are "Easy, No-stress Gardening," which is what you might want to do come spring . Others are "How Not to Kill your Plants," which might add to your gardening know how, and "How to Plan, Plant, and Enjoy Your Garden." You might also want to plan out on paper a different arrangement for your garden to make it more attractive . Another idea would be to get a plant catalog and order something totally delicious that would give you something to look forward to in the spring; for instance, order some beautiful strawberry vanilla hydrangeas. . They will definitely perk up your garden ! Take care.

Been doing that, have so many ideas just getting frustrated that I cannot do them NOW> My problem is I have little patience with doing nothing, working on that.

Please post a picture. I have some that I'm trying to root from the leaves. Takes a lot of patience for them to get the little roots going. I guess I need to stop looking at them every day. I didn't realize when I got them that they would get that big.

    Thanks for the info!
