white vinegar and water 50/50 and a dab of dish soap
wash with hot soapy water
Try using Goo Gone to remove the stickiness. Then go over with some Old English lemon oil or similar.
magic eraser, be careful if painted
Make a mixture of one part warm water and one part plain ammonia. Use it to clean the chairs, then wipe with a clean, damp cloth to remove any residue. The ammonia will clean and brighten the finish without damaging it.
I use murphy's oil soap and water. It does a great job on wood.
Karen gave you the right answer. After you wash with Murphy's oil soap, put Wilbert's lemon oil to preserve the wood, follow the directions on the bottle. Good Luck!
