If you are going to use a regular sewing machine the best advice I can give you is to get a teflon foot for that brand machine. You could also use a heavy duct tape and just tape the joints together so that any seams would be smooth.

  • I have used inexpensive flannel backed vinyl table clothes.

Place Scotch tape on the foot of the sewing machine.

Agree with RWalter's tip to Use a teflon presser foot , which is designed for sewing over vinyl.

Do Not use any duct tape however. The sewing machine needle will not penetrate through it. You will ruin any needle you try to sew with, and risk getting duct tape stickiness over other parts of your project.

I have seen specially designed no-slip table padding fabric for sale by the bolt in fabric stores such as Fabricland. Check on eBay also.

You may want to compare the price of purchasing the ready-made fabric and the simple work of binding the edge, with the cost of purchasing the filler, the two outler layers, plus your work in putting it all together.

Be careful. Vinyl can stick to fine finishes and leave marks that won't come off, especially if something hot is placed on it. Make sure the vinyl doesn't come in direct contact with your table-top, only a cloth backing.
