Careful with marble. You can etch the surface. You need a cleaner specifically designed for marble and granite. You may have to use some elbow grease, but in the long run you'll be happier. After you've cleaned apply car paste wax. Buff. You will periodically need to reapply the wax, but it really helps with the scum.
I've used Bar Keeper's Friend and hot water with a teflon sponge. It's non abrasive.
