I glued the pieces twice and the 6000 glue wouldn't hold it.

E6000 needs quite a bit of drying time for glass. I use it often and don't have that issue. Could be you had a bad tube. There are epoxies for glass in the craft stores that might work better for you.
try a different glass glue. Loctite makes one
get the 2 part epoxy glue from homedepot
i used Gorilla glue. I glued them used painters tape to secure the pieces Took off the tape the next day and it worked just great
I used Loctite GO2 glue. Sat outside in summer heat and held up great.
