How do l get rust out of a cast iron corn bread mold ?
lt is one shaped like ears of corn. l've soaked it in vinegar-water and used steel wool on it. l got the smooth parts clean. But inside the tiny parts l can't get the rust out. How do I clean the cast iron pan of rust?

Try using a toothbrush with very little oil on it. If you can't get it clean, it's time to get a new one. You don't want to have rust in your food. EJL.
the spruce...how to season a cast iron baking mold. Heat the oven to 275 degrees f. Clean pan very well..scrub of dried food. Dry thoroughly. Coat with solid veggie shortening. Bake pan for 15 min. Take pan out of oven one pour off the excess shorting. Put back in oven for 2 more hours. If you are having a hard time getting the rust off...fine steel wool...and a pencil eraser on it for the tight spots. A little rust doesn't usually hurt any one...heaven knows the water here in my house is normally orange. I have to use a iron removing filter in order to drink it. As my aunti milo put it....it's got a little bite....
The first thing is NEVER use vinegar on metal! And NEVER clean your cast iron with water! I am using cast iron skillets that are over 100 years old! Every so often I will place a couple of drops of olive oil in a skillet, rub it in good and then place it in a cooling oven to get it good and dry from the gravy just made in it. I take care to scrape out and wipe out with paper towels any foodstuff.
Pour a little olive oil on the inside and scrub it with a small dry scrubbing pad...a small brush will get in those little indented places. Wipe it clean with a paper towel and then re-coat the pan with olive oil. Let is sit a little while and repeat. This may take a couple of applications to remove all the rust.
When you have cleaned it thoroughly, wipe it clean with paper towels, and re-cure it on about 200 in the oven. You may have to use a non-stick spray for a while.
Any food stuffs should be removed with a razor blade and/or dry scrub pad. Get a small wire brush to use on those indentions. Salt is the scrubbing agent for cast iron.
fine grade steel wool and soap.. the get into the tiny parts use a pencil eraser end down to het the steel wool in contact with the pan. And yes you can use soap in your pan. Rinse with hot water, dry on a stove top burner...reseasonthe pan. I like a dab of olive oil..it tends no to go rancid as some shortenings do.
Warm the corn pone pan. Try using a toothbrush, a very light coating of oil in the corn stick pan (wipe the oil on with a paper towel), heavily sprinkled with salt. Use the toothbrush to scour the salt into the corn dimples, adding salt as necessary for its scouring effect. If you still have rust, you could use a Dremel drill with a polisher adapter to polish the last of the rust off. Once you are happy with the results, season the cast iron per the recommended methods.
Coke! Let it soak in the cola! Then clean the pan!!
