When you say aged, are you talking about distressed (where the edges are sanded to reveal underlying wood) or the crackled look to the paint?
I paint pallet, and to age the wood, I just paint and then use the full side of a knife and scrape off s of the paint. I also use pickling paint to get an antiquish look
Why don't you try the chalk paints? Annie Sloan makes a great one! Choose your colors and go with it. One example would be to paint it a soft blue, and then rub over that with a soft white. There are so many beautiful options with chalk paint. There is a chalk paint group for Annie Sloan on FB; you could get many ideas there, AND help if you needed it.
