Extend the bed to the shed to enlarge the space and unclutter under the tree. If both sides of the fence are yours then maybe paint or stain all one color to unify the space. You have a lot of different colors going on between the house, shed and fence.
Sorry I hit answer before my last sentence was complete. If you add some pottery in front of the shed, and match it with the same in the landscape bed area it would also help pull all of the spaces together. If I have time over the weekend I will do a pic for you to show you what I mean.
You could make a tiered garden using concrete blocks as planters, or plant small fruit or citrus trees in horse tanks and place against the wall... I have seen some really clever hanging planters made from old tires (painted). Maybe a portable (or not) fire pit... How about shepard's hooks combined with hanging flower baskets and solar lights drive around your neighborhood and check out what others have done .. the sky is the limit
I do not see a need to extend the garden,it needs some flowering foliage for color. As for the tree stump attach a garden statue,or make a container planting ,add a gang ball for color, use solar lighting ,hang a wind chime. Honestly the area just needs some color
i would plant another conifer to match your one near the shed, to take away from the focus of the stump. A gazebo or arbour with your chairs or bench underneath would look great. Fairy lights and some square concrete stepping stones under the chairs or bench would be good. You could place your bbq between the shed and this outdoor living area so they tie together for your outdoor entertaining.
You could also add screens behind on each side so the contrast of the new to old fence doesn't show.
Make a big fairy garden house with the tree stump
Sorry .darn edits....gazing ball
Don't forget to check Habitat for Humanity for bargains for your outdoor décor. What you need will depend upon how you intend to use the space you have. Is it mostly for looks and seating for two or do you intend to use the space for entertaining?
Checking out what blooms when as you create and/or recreate planting areas could enable you to have blooms throughout the growing season. If this space is primarily for appearance rather than entertaining, blooms along with plants that keep their leaves year round are a plus.
Something to consider is that having the top of the edging at ground level makes for easier mowing around the garden/patio -- perhaps even using pavers that can create a sidewalk around and into the garden -- maybe creating distinctly separate sections for your patio/garden and a brick or paver path or sidewalk to the space from your back door.
A patio floor for your bench, etc., doesn't always need to be solid. You could have gravel or grass between any bricks or pavers -- perhaps also creating a solid paved space for a free standing metal fire pit and/ or for your BBQ grill and/or patio umbrella.
A plain concrete bird bath is a plus for any yard. This is the time of year you're more likely to find them on sale, too.
