I suggest you watch some videos (either on Hometalk or try You Tube). Buy some inexpensive, simple stenciling supplies and practice on a couple of different surfaces (scrap wood, canvas, even cardboard or paper).
You should go onto You Tube and type "how to stencil" in the Search box. There will be a lot of great How-To videos on this topic.

I saw one that said to use mod podge on the stencil form first so it won't bleed. Try to find it on you tube
