Check with your tubs manufacturer and see what they recommend
we drain and clean ours 2 times a year. We use comet.
put enough water in the tub to cover the jets. Pour a gallon of cleaning vinegar and a cap of laundry detergent into the water and turn the power on for 10 minutes. Check all the jets. If they are not clean, run it again for another 10 minutes. Mine were clean after the first run. Drain the tub when you are satisfied and fill with enough water to cover the jets and turn on the power for 2 minutes , this time to rinse the pipes and jets.
dump it-they are just breeding ground for nasty germs and filth
Marty is correct. Only use what the manufacturer recommends.
Mine recommends 2 cups bleach to the water 2 inches above the jets. Do not use the splashless bleach. It has detergent in it and bubbles up like a bubble bath. Trying to reach the jet cut off is a real challenge when the bubbles are 2 feet over the top of the tub. I speak from experience. If you have lime and calcium build up around the jets that does not clean with the bleach, use lime toilet cleaner. Let stand for 1 hour, then clean. Rinse well with vinegar and water. Works on my fiberglass tub.
