No. Vinyl siding expands and contracts with temp changes. Board siding would move differently. There is also the possibility of moisture getting trapped between both sidings. Siding needs to be install on a solid base with proper vapor barrier. Could cause premature failure. The vinyl siding would need to be removed before installing new.
In every DIY show that I have seen... they ALWAYS remove the vinyl siding.. otherwise it can compromise the efficiency of the new stuff
Not a good idea because of the expansion and contraction. 'Big Mike' always says 'do it right' the first time. You'll be happy that you did. Remove the vinyl, insulate the walls, attach wood siding. Best of luck.
