Cash or Visa gift cards are perfect for young adults that you don’t know a specific item they want. I put a little note in the card saying something like “Here’s some cash for a Starbucks study session”.

instead of tangible gifts, try giving a memory. What does he like? Music? Paintball? Go carts? Any activity.......Look on Groupon or Living Social for cheap deals. If you have a friend who has a boat or camper, ask if the 18 yr. can use it for a day or weekend; get his friends together and plan activities (people that age ate NOTHING good at planning stuff). Anything to check off a bucket list and give him a new experience that he hasn't done before.

A gift card for a movie and snack is always appreciated. You could go to the $ store and pick up a plastic popcorn container, and put a bag of microwave popcorn in it, a chocolate bar and a can of pop. Add a movie gift card, and now you have a movie-themed gift.

Idk if it is the same where you live, but I used to buy free movie cards, and found out that I was paying more for the movie, since some nights are cheaper. Now I get the giftcard that they can use on anything at the movies, so if the movie is cheaper, than can get a bigger snack.

Costco sometimes has discounted gift cards where you pay less than the face value. If you don't have a membership, maybe a friend who does could pick up a card for you.

I agree with Karla about Groupon, you can save a great deal of money with a coupon, and it is free to sign up.

Gift cards to the local eateries. Movie gift cards. Find out what they like to do in their leisure time and give them something to help that endeavor.

Gift cards. Either a generic Visa or Master Card that can be used anywhere or a gas card. If you want something to wrap, put the gift card into a goofy gift and wrap that.

i would stick with gift cards also. That's a picky age to buy for. A gas card would even Be a good idea.
