Laundry Room -- If washer is front loader build countertop over washer and dryer for folding. If you stay with Formica you can order a custom counter for little $$. Going wall to wall, hang a cabinet over the dryer and extend a shelf out over the washer from top and bottom of cabinet (allow room if washer opens on top). Add a bar for storing hangers between shelves toward the top. That should provide a place for laundry supplies right above the washer and what ever you want to tuck out of sight can go in the cabinet.
If you don't want to repaint the frames, you may need to use an antiqueing glaze to give it an old, vintage distressed look, or if you want to truly distress them, you may need to repaint the frames to add layers of color for distressing, here are links on several options for that:
