Hi Dana, I added wheels to mine. It gives enough height to use as a coffee table, or you can wheel it out to the front porch and decorate for Christmas. You can put it next to your Christmas tree and pile presents on it. ! In the spring/summer you can put it outstide and put flowers on it. (just make sure you give it a coat or two of sealant.

as well as glass you can get heavy plexiglass
First I'd clean it up, touch up the paint and give it a good layer of varnish. Then I'd set it on top of a couple tree trunk chunks. I wouldn't place glass over it rather I'd set a rectangular wire basket type tray with an insert covered in any type of pattern (cloth or fabric). The insert is just a thin piece of board cut to fit the inside of the basket. You could cover the insert with clear vellum and as long as you only tacked it on the backside you could switch the print to match the season or holiday. Set a couple short stacks of coasters on the table to encourage people to use them. These naturally have such a beautiful woodsy rustic feel I think it's important to follow though with the
long sawhorse underneath
