My bathroom is rather old and it has a butcher block vanity top. The wood needs to be sanded down, stained and sealed. I just don't know how to go about doing it.

You are in luck Marsha. They make paint specifically for countertops. Check homedepot.com or Amazon.
Hi there! I am remaking mine right now!
I sanded thoroughly and then applied many (4 or 5) coats of spray paint (Rustoleum 2x ultra cover). With a brush and acrylic art paint, I did a granit kinda look. After, I sprayed paint with silver paint... But just enough to make it sparkle a bit, not to cover all of my work. Finished with 3 coats of Krylon triple thick crystal clear glaze.
I really love my new counter top!! Hope that it will help you!!
There's a PVC vinyl made specifically for this! It's called EZ Faux Decor. Check it out, it might be just what you are looking for 😀
