The easiest would be to use a low tack masking tape and number all your tiles, remove them from the ceiling and paint the metal grid a colour that suits your decor. Then using paint you could roll on a complementary colour onto the tiles. Or, you can use spray adhesive and apply fabric to them leaving enough over-hang to bring it to the back side of the tile and using tape or tacks secure it. You can also use wall paper, heavy quality gift wrap, burlap. Anything light enough that it will stick to the tile without adding too much weight. If you use fabric, look in the drapery section of a liquidation store, more bang for your buck!
