as long as you don't wax it....
I have. I actually used the chalk paint to create a paintable surface when trying to paint some really aged cabinets that were not real wood. But, that paper overlay. Just give it a light sand. I am not a pro but, nothing else worked and the paint has not scraped off even cleaning it.
