What about a collapsible table with a folding facade/screen that can be attached with ties or bungees that would cover the front and sides... a long table cloth could be painted.. or not and could cover any storage or mechanics

The thick poster board, like for a school science project will work pretty well if it is large enough.
You could use PVC that can be taken apart. Make a square, stand it up and put a curtain up across the middle. The puppet master sits behind the curtain.
pvc pipe and fabric could be used and very easy to take down and put up
Another possibility I've seen is to use a large appliance box and cut it to measure. With the ends removed it can be flattened for moving.
When I was young, they were plywood three piece hinged together. The middle one had the cut out with little curtains.
A card table, or elevated table is fine., use a card board that a frig came in, and make walls, and then cut out a area, that can be used as a window. You can paint any color you choose, or staple colored paper, there too, then you can change it, by season, if you choose. Good luck, I hope this helps you. J.
