Best way is to dismantle it and remove the platters and destroy them. Opening it up requires special screw driver heads. Alternative is to drill several (a lot) into the hard drive and through the platters.

Would running a magnet on all sides remove all the info?
Use a strong magnet and rub it over it top and bottom. It will destroy anything on the hard drive.
Regular magnet won't work. Not strong enough. You would need to surround the hard drive with rare earth magnets for several days to efficiently erase the info. The platters are so close to each other using magnetism is an myth.
You can drill holes in it or you can download a file eraser tool.
