Yes they can be painted. Most of the work is on the prep side. You must sand them to create a surface conducive for paint to stick to them. The next step is to prime them. Finally you can put the top coat of paint on them. There is a contributor to hometalk that can do all of this for you! Wallstreat Studios- http://www.hometalk.com/member/gm9um003pc I have personally seen her portfolio and they do great work.

prime w/ a product called "xim" from Duron. Spraying the doors would be best and brush the boxes. Painters woujd do this job. No spraiying in the house, let them use your garage if needed.
  • Thank you, SawHorse. And, Higgins is right about the XIM. Another primer that works well is Styx from Ben Moore. Depending upon the layout of your kitchen, sometimes we can spray indoors. It requires a lot of job site prep and zip walls so we can protect all of the other surfaces in the area. Once that is done, the project goes very quickly. It is well worth the effort to be able to have all of the surfaces sprayed rather than brushed.

Hello Marlen, I have done a few cabinets in the past. And as Wallstreat said Styx works very well. I like to use foam rollers, they give a smooth finish / no brush strokes and no need to cover the house in plastic to spray.

I agree w/ Walls Treat,XIM is the best primer for that type of job. YES,spray them.A good painter can do this w/ no problem.Even if he has to spay doors in your garage or basement. A vacuum sprayer workers very well and has very little overspray GOOD LUCK.
