Hi Anna. I had vertical blinds and removed them. I put up curtains and use hold backs to keep them more open. In winter I change them out to a thermal curtain which helps keep the heat in.
Most hardware stores sell stick on film by a company called ArtScapes. I used a lace type detailed pattern for the side windows of my front door but I had to get creative in the application. My windows are only 6.5 inches wide but 72" tall. I used their "sidelights" film and cut it in half where each side would then fit into these window panels. It looked MUCH better than the standard ugly curtain options. Just check your height measurements for the longer films made for doors.

I have sliding doors to my deck and I use bamboo shades.
I saw a really great technique, where they used textured/clear contact paper, cut into 2x2 squares, then applied to the glass, leaving about 1/2" all around. so it was like a cut glass treatment. you could still take advantage of the light and since there was clear glass in between the squares, the view was NOT totally obstructed.
I had verticals also I tried drapes did not like the one sided look. I Extended the curtain rod now have drapes on each side. if you decided to go this route make sure the rod will be wide enough to access the patio latch easily. Hope this helps
