Hi Sue, Real, plastic or "silk" branches that are wired to a metal wreath ring should all hold up. Of course, the real ones aren't reusable and will eventually turn brown so if you want it to last, you'll need to use artificial branches. Use green floral wire to wire all of them to the ring. To decorate, I'd say the same thing. There are a lot of cute plastic ornaments at the dollar stores that should be fine if you glue them with a strong glue and also wire them to the ring. Even if you lose one or two it's not a huge loss. Many places also sell plastic bows, although, I've seen many homes here with all kinds of bows exposed to our weather and we're near the Canadian border. From my point of view, as long as it's wired on good, it should be okay. Hope that helps and I wish you the best with your project.

You can use any wintergreen from the yard. Just spray the wreath with water because it will get dry. You can buy the wreaths from Home depot or Lowes. It will last 3 to 4 weeks.

I live outside Chicago so I know all about cold winters. Last year I made a wreath with candy canes. Glue 2 candy canes together to resemble a heart. You will need (at the very least) 12 hearts. Then lay the hearts in a circle so that the tips of the hearts meet in the center. Then glue them all together. I glued a "Merry Christmas" sign in the center of mine (from the Dollar store). Attach a ribbon (also from Dollar store) to hang it from. Last year mine was very cute and I intend to make another one this year too.

You're welcome. I hope you take pictures as you make your wreath and Post it for all of us to enjoy! Do it on the upper right where it says Post Project. It's not hard to do, the system walks you through the steps.
