I would like to refinish because of nail polish spills etc. The table has metal legs and the wood is veneer.

Before you try to refinish - which may not be possible with veneer - try Restore-A-Finish. Rub on with a clean soft cloth. Wipe of with a second cloth. Comes in tons of colors to match all woods . About $9.00 a can.

I agree with Lisa ^^^ I love ReStoreAFinish and use it all of the time. But if it does not work, lightly sand the top and then use the ReStoreAFinish and put a poly finish on top to seal.

  • I upgraded a bench seat that was veneer - I sanded the entire surface, patched gaps with paintable filler (sometimes veneer chips) then made sure the patches were sanded flush. Then I primed, painted (I use Fusion Mineral paint) and then poly-ed the whole surface. Came out great. Good luck!

Yep, sand it off and paint it. Seal if you want with poly e. Or paint using oil based that is not coming off at all (better like the color or technique) .

Am I the only one that still thinks “veneer” is a drinking game from “Fraser “ ?

I have done quite a few pieces that were veneer. You have to sand but be careful not to sand too deep or you will go through the veneer. If the veneer is in good shape sand it with like 120 grit and then you can polyurethane it or you can paint it, if there are chips and gaps use wood putty to fill, sand smooth then paint. If painting it is best to use a good primer first then paint over that, the paint will last longer and not chip as easy. For latex paints I like to go over the whole piece with a water based polyurethane and it really makes the paint last much longer and makes it easier to clean too.

Hi there, you can paint it and add a beautiful stencil for something special. Here's a tutorial that will show you how - https://artzyfartzycreations.com/how-to-paint-veneer-5/

Try to remove the nailvarnish using a Q tip cotton bud. then lightly sand the table top and then when smooth and clean and ofcourse dry. Re-seal.
