Tatted doily, candle wax melted on, best way to get it off

My great grandmother gave me the doily, I thought about wax paper and ironing to get the wax off, but I want to save the doily! Anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance!
Fold paper towels into two small stacks and place the doily between them. Using a hot iron (no steam!), press down onto the area with the wax. It will melt into the paper towels. Keep repeating until all of the wax is gone and then wash.
I got wax out of carpet by using LOTS of paper towel and an iron. Was easy. Took my time, not my house but my mistake. After you feel you have removed the wax a warm wash of the doily should take care of any residual wax. (BTW: did not require much heat.)
I use old soft folded cotton rags on top and underneath to absorb the wax, and an iron on top of one of the rags. Then if there is still some worked into the openings, I would put in the freezer in a bag, and then take it out and work it back and forth to get it to crumble. Repeat either step until your satisfied.
Freeze it then break away the wax
You should start by putting it in the freezer first. Scraping it or rubbing it back & forth on itself will remove a lot of the wax. THEN, after removing as much wax as you can, use your iron and paper towels. One under it and one on top. Change them as soon as you see wax on the paper towel. Keep doing it until there is no wax transferred to the paper towel. Then wash as normal. When dry it should look good.

Yes - Linda's method is tried and true. Hope it works for you. Not many people do tatting anymore. Hope you can salvage this.
Just a slight correction. Your doily is not tatted is crocheted, which will help with your wax dilemma. I've made hundreds of doilies quite like yours and they are more durable than you might imagine.
The first thing I would suggest is that you try to peel or pick off the big chunks of wax. If you stretch the stitches of the doily that should make doing that a bit easier. It looks like it's made out of #10 crochet thread.
Once you've done that you should have no problem washing the doily with a white/bleach load in your washer using hot water.
Nearly all crochet thread is 100% cotton and can withstand the washing process. This should rid you of any residual wax.
Dry on a line and press to reshape.
Hi Tammy, you might try spraying it with Totally Awesome Cleaner without bleach. You get it at the dollar store. Spray it on, let it sit for a little bit, maybe 30 seconds, and then sponge it off.
