That would be fine, but if you can remove the cornices just reupholster them with new fabric. You don't even need to remove the old fabric if you don't want to.

I would not use a spray because it will go where you don't want it too........Use Chalk paint instead......

Not for writing on. Chalk paint is amazing! Here is a link with information. I make my own though with plaster of paris. You can find different "recipes" in the web. I would definitely recommend chalk paint over spray paint. www.chalkpaint.com
