You need to get a pumice stick (you can find them at the dollar store near the laundry/cleaning supplies).

Have you tried kool aid-or plain coke
use some sandpaper and rubbbbb
My solution was the pumice stick. This is excellent way to remove stains and rings in the toilet. When commercial toilet cleaners fail -this is my go to. Great for thick crusted calcium mineral build up that the toilet waterbowl collcts.
They are found at my local Walmart for less than two dollars -good for multiple uses. Be sure to follow the use instructions, soaking the pumice stone in water for a few minutes. While the stone is soaking, grab your toilet brush and splash water up around the ring. Note: It’s very important to keep both the stone and the surface wet while cleaning to avoid scratching your porcelain.

I hope you continue to collect some great suggestions, hard water can be aggravating!
I'm with the pumice stone suggestion. I have personally used it and it works wonders. In addition to that you may want to try Barkeeper's Cleanser. It's one of my go to products in my home. Best of luck.
Soften it up with Coca-Cola first then use the pumice stick. Pour the coke in the night before and let it sit all night.
Drain the water out of your toilet bowl. Line it with paper towels. Squirt WHINK Rust Stain Remover on the paper towels where the ring is located. The paper towels will hold the WHINK on the stain so it can work on it. Let it sit for only a few minutes. Remove the paper towels and clean the stain with a Pumie Scouring Stick and cold water. If your toilet is colored, don’t drain the water out of it. Use a Pumie Scouring Stick and no WHINK.
***WHINK is to be used on WHITE toilets and sinks, not colored ones.***
***WHINK has a Skull and Crossbones on the container, so be careful.***
Do they sell Whink at Safeways, Nancy Ann Davis ? Thanks !
