Cutting in is a phrase that means painting the edges, and corners, of a room. After you cut in the room, then change to a roller to paint the bigger portion, the actual wall itself. Hope this helps you.

Cutting-in is easier for me with an angled cut-in brush and then I load only the tip.
I then “draw” a bead of paint at a pretty flat angle.
Using a pearl paint is a tough beginners project because the reflective sheen will show brush and roller marks.
I’d spend more time on prep work than usual.
